Kenneth Bishop

Kenneth Bishop, a 60-year-old former officer of the Soperton Police Department, has been arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Terroristic Threats and Acts. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) took Bishop into custody and booked him into the Treutlen County Jail on August 19, 2024.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 26, 2024, while Bishop was still employed by the Soperton Police Department. According to the GBI, Bishop was dispatched to respond to a call regarding an assault. During the course of the initial investigation, he stopped a vehicle occupied by three individuals who were relatives and friends of the assault victim. An argument ensued between Bishop and the occupants of the car, which escalated when Bishop drew his firearm and pointed it at them. He also struck the vehicle’s windows and threatened to shoot.

The Soperton Police Department requested the GBI’s involvement in the investigation on July 31, 2024. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
