Quick Action by Firefighters Contain Basement Fire in Cleveland, Georgia, Home

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., White County 911 Communications received a report of a home filled with smoke on Tow Drive in Cleveland. White County 911 dispatched a residential structure fire assignment, which included White County Fire, Cleveland Fire, White County EMS, and White County Emergency Management. Dispatchers confirmed that the home was unoccupied before the arrival of fire personnel.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-story home with a basement, where smoke was billowing from the upper level down to the floor. Firefighters took safety measures and entered the home to locate the fire and its source. They discovered a blaze in the basement and quickly began extinguishing it. The fire was contained and extinguished, with subsequent efforts focusing on ventilating the structure, removing smoke, and checking for hotspots or fire extensions.

Firefighters stayed on the scene throughout the evening to secure the structure and ensure all hotspots were fully extinguished. Thanks to their prompt response, the majority of the home was saved, preventing a potentially more severe outcome. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under investigation by the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
