71-Year-Old Suspect Arrested After Multiple Bank Robberies in Dunwoody, Brookhaven, and Chamblee
On July 30, 2024, at approximately 2:20 PM, officers were dispatched to Synovus Bank at 5506 Chamblee Dunwoody Road in response to a robbery in progress. The suspect entered the bank, presented a demand note for cash, and left without any money. The suspect then proceeded to Chase Bank at 5540 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, presented a demand note, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Officers arrived in the area and located the suspect after he entered a nearby wooded area and changed clothes. The suspect, identified as 71-year-old Sharke Bankston, was detained, identified as the offender, and taken to Dunwoody Police Headquarters for further questioning.
Authorities determined that Bankston was involved in two other bank robberies in the cities of Brookhaven and Chamblee. The Brookhaven Police Department had an active warrant for his arrest, and he was the suspect in Chamblee’s bank robbery. Representatives from both agencies responded to Dunwoody Police Headquarters and interviewed the offender.
Bankston was transported to Dekalb County Jail for Brookhaven’s warrant and the offenses committed in Dunwoody. Questions regarding the incidents in Brookhaven and Chamblee should be directed to their respective representatives.
