Gwinnett Police Highlight PTSD Awareness Day

Today, the Gwinnett County Police Department is recognizing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day, emphasizing the impact of traumatic events on individuals. PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing such events, affecting mental health.

In efforts to address these challenges, Gwinnett Police collaborates with View Point Health to operate the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU). The BHU’s primary goal is to enhance safety during police interactions involving individuals experiencing mental health crises. The unit provides crucial assessments and connects citizens with essential resources.

For immediate assistance during a crisis, individuals are encouraged to call 9-8-8 to speak with a mental health professional. In emergencies requiring police intervention, dialing 9-1-1 remains crucial for prompt law enforcement assistance.
