Athens-Clarke County Joins Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) and Mayor Kelly Girtz have been selected to participate in the prestigious Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance. This initiative brings together 23 mayors from across North America, South America, and the Caribbean, including cities like Tampa, FL; Green Bay, WI; and Ottawa, Canada, among others. The alliance, now spanning 65 cities across 12 countries, aims to enhance government services through data-driven policies.

As part of the alliance, ACCGov will receive multi-year support to utilize data and artificial intelligence effectively. This includes technical coaching to assess community needs and improve services, such as healthcare access and public safety. Mayor Girtz and other mayors, representing over 8 million residents globally, convened at Johns Hopkins University for a two-day summit to kick off the program. The summit focuses on establishing robust data infrastructure to guide evidence-based decision-making.

“We are excited to leverage data and emerging technology to better serve our residents,” said Mayor Girtz. “This partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies will empower us to address local challenges more effectively.”

The Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance is delivered in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence and aims to build on successful data practices across participating cities worldwide.
