Officer-Involved Shooting in Chamblee Leaves Suspect Dead
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Chamblee, Georgia, at the request of the Chamblee Police Department. The incident, which occurred on October 22, 2024, resulted in the death of 59-year-old Terrell Laron Hoggro of Lawrenceville, GA. No officers were injured.
According to preliminary information, just before 5:00 p.m., investigators with the Lawrenceville Police Department identified Hoggro’s location at a Quality Inn motel on Northeast Expressway in Chamblee. Hoggro was wanted on multiple felony arrest warrants related to armed robberies.
As investigators conducted surveillance and prepared for the arrest, Hoggro emerged from a motel room. When officers approached, Hoggro drew a handgun from his waistband and raised it. A Lawrenceville Police officer fired at Hoggro, striking him. Officers rendered aid until an ambulance arrived, but Hoggro was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Hoggro’s body will undergo an autopsy at the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation, and the case file will be reviewed by the Dekalb County District Attorney’s Office once completed.
