Arrest Made in Cedar Avenue Shooting Death of Man Sitting on Porch

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators have arrested 39-year-old Willie James Haugabrook III in connection with the death of 36-year-old Gregory William Thomas. The incident occurred on April 14, 2024, in the 1900 block of Cedar Avenue.

Investigators identified Haugabrook as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest. Haugabrook was located in a home in the 4200 block of Pinedale Drive by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Gang Unit Investigators and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force at approximately 10:18 a.m.

Haugabrook is currently held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond on charges of murder, as well as unrelated charges of hit and run and theft by taking a motor vehicle.

On Sunday, April 14, deputies responded to a duplex on Cedar Avenue regarding a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they found Gregory William Thomas suffering from gunshot wounds. Thomas, who was attending a gathering at the location, was sitting on the front porch when gunshots were heard. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
