Shooting at Atlanta Homeless Encampment Leaves Woman Critical

On May 12, 2024, at approximately 6:10 am, Atlanta Police officers were dispatched to 400 Pryor ST SW in the Mechanicsville area in response to reports of a person shot. The incident took place at a homeless encampment.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. Grady EMS arrived at the scene and transported the victim to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Initial findings suggest that the shooting arose from a physical altercation between two males at the encampment, which escalated to gunfire, resulting in the female being injured. All individuals involved are believed to be acquainted with each other within the encampment.

The investigation is ongoing.
