Fulton County and Atlanta City Resume Animal Control Services
At its meeting on April 17, 2024, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Atlanta, reinstating animal control services within the city limits effective immediately.
Residents seeking animal control services can once again dial 404-613-0358 to request assistance.
Chairman Robb Pitts expressed satisfaction with the swift resolution, stating, “I am glad that we have been able to resolve this matter with the City of Atlanta expeditiously and respectfully. We are especially grateful for staff from both Fulton County and the City of Atlanta who continued to work to protect the safety of animals and people during this pause in services.”
On Tuesday, April 16, Fulton County received an intergovernmental agreement signed by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. The agreement was promptly added to the agenda for the Board of Commissioners’ meeting and authorizes payment for services.
Throughout the 10-day hiatus in service, the Fulton County Animal Services Facility on Fulton Industrial Boulevard remained open to accept animals from City of Atlanta residents. During this period, the facility received approximately 98 dogs. Calls for services from the City of Atlanta constitute roughly 55% of animal control requests in Fulton County overall.
