Mother and Grandmother Arrested After Child Overdoses on Meth in Richmond County
On March 18, 2024, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia concerning a one-year-old child suspected of suffering from an overdose of methamphetamine exposure. The child was admitted to the hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Following the incident, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division launched an inquiry into the matter.
On March 19, 2024, Deborah Danielle Wright, aged 29 and identified as the child’s mother, and Laura Michelle Wright, aged 51 and identified as the child’s grandmother, were apprehended and charged with one count each of Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree.
The investigation is ongoing.
