Police Arrest Burglary Suspect Hiding in Athens Store Ceiling

Late Sunday evening, Athens-Clarke County Police Officers swiftly responded to reports of a burglary in progress at a business on North Ave in Athens.

Staff at the establishment alerted authorities upon noticing a person captured on security footage within the store after hours. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect attempting to conceal themselves in the store’s ceiling.

Despite commands to surrender, the suspect remained uncooperative. Officer Maloney, a member of Nights East, Squad B, took action by employing a pepper ball launcher to encourage compliance.

Following the deployment of several pepper balls, the suspect abandoned their hiding spot and was apprehended without further resistance.
