Homeless Man Arrested for Homicide on Washington Road in Augusta

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has announced the capture and arrest of 32-year-old Robert Ward, a homeless man wanted for a homicide that occurred on February 28, 2024, on the 2800 block of Washington Road in Augusta.

The incident took place in the early morning hours when deputies responded to reports of shots fired and a person down. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered 38-year-old John Lowden Jr. had been shot. Unfortunately, Lowden was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:05 am.

Prior to Ward’s arrest, the RCSO had issued an alert cautioning residents that Ward was considered armed and dangerous. Additionally, they advised that he was known to frequent the hotels along Washington Road.

Ward has been charged with Murder.
