City of Macon Employees Receive Holiday Bonuses

In a gesture of gratitude for their hard work and dedication, City of Macon Mayor Lester Miller and the Commission have brought holiday cheer to every County department by approving a one-time bonus for both full-time and part-time employees.

Last week, employees experienced a pleasant surprise as they found an extra boost in their paychecks. Full-time employees received an additional $2,500, while part-time employees received $1,000.

On Tuesday, December 5, Mayor Miller presented a plan to the Commission, proposing a one-time retention pay adjustment for each employee who started with the city on or before July 1, 2023. The Commission approved the use of up to $4.1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for this pay adjustment.

“We have the best employees, and we wanted to make sure they knew how much their work is appreciated,” Mayor Lester Miller expressed. “We’re hoping this bonus allows everyone to be a little more comfortable during the holiday season and focus on spending time with their loved ones.”

The announcement was met with gratitude from the employees, who wasted no time expressing their thanks to Mayor Miller and his administration.

“What a Blessing!!! Thank you to the Budget, Finance, and Human Resource Departments for making this Christmas a Merry Christmas,” exclaimed Jalanda Patterson with the Corrections Division.

“I want to thank all the people who made it possible and worked hard to bring all the employees of Macon-Bibb County this unexpected blessing at Christmas. A heartfelt thank you! Happy Holidays to all,” added Rhonda Taylor, Bibb County Superior Court Receiver.
