Governor Kemp Announces Funding Approval for New College & Career Academy in Walker County

Atlanta, GA – Governor Brian P. Kemp revealed today that the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) has given the green light for a grant exceeding $3 million to establish a new College & Career Academy in Walker County. Named Walker Launch, this initiative stems from a collaborative effort between Walker County Schools and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, with a focus on serving students from Walker and Dade Counties.

In emphasizing the importance of supporting Georgia’s workforce, Governor Kemp stated, “To maintain our status as the No. 1 state for business, it’s crucial we support our valued and robust workforce. Walker Launch will help prepare students for new opportunities while connecting them with the jobs of tomorrow, and I appreciate all those who worked on bringing this project to fruition.”

The substantial grant, comprising $3 million in bonds and an additional $100,000 in cash, will facilitate the creation of a state-of-the-art learning environment. This environment is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the demands of the modern workforce. The establishment of Walker Launch brings the total number of College & Career Academies in Georgia to 58, signifying a significant milestone in the state’s educational landscape.
