Clayton County Man Convicted of Malice Murder in 2021 Shooting Death
Clayton County District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley announced the conviction of Daquan Jacorre Williams, who was found guilty by a Clayton County jury on multiple charges including Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a First Offender Probationer.
The case centered around the murder of 33-year-old Lamar Woodard, whose body was discovered on January 29, 2021, in the bedroom of his residence on Upper Riverdale Road. Woodard was found dead from gunshot wounds. At the time of the shooting, the homeowners were awakened by the sound of multiple gunshots around 1:45 a.m. They testified that a male voice, later identified as Williams, attempted to enter their room and claimed the noise was “just fireworks.” The homeowners recognized the voice as belonging to someone they knew as Woodard’s “brother,” though they did not know his name.
Investigators later identified Williams as the “brother” in question. Major Case Investigator Jennifer Langley of the Clayton County Police Department played a crucial role in the investigation, which led to Williams’ arrest.
The trial, which began on July 16, 2024, and concluded on July 19, 2024, was led by Assistant District Attorney Nigel H. Hunter, with Assistant District Attorney Jamal Williams serving as second chair. Victim Advocate Kelita Almond was also instrumental in the prosecution.
Clayton County Superior Court Judge Jewel C. Scott presided over the trial and is scheduled to sentence Williams on August 6, 2024.
District Attorney Mosley remarked, “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends who have endured unimaginable pain and loss. I hope this verdict brings some measure of closure and peace to them and the citizens of Clayton County. I also want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of those who played a crucial role in this process. As always, my office continues to work tirelessly on behalf of Clayton County.”
