Gang Members Convicted in Columbus Murder Case: Justice Served for Marcel Samedi
Davion Dupas, Jaheim Davis, and Corey Troupe, Jr. have been convicted in the murder case of Marcel Samedi, who was shot and killed at the Wilson Apartment Complex in Columbus in June 2021. The three defendants, identified as members of the Insane Crips gang, were found guilty by a Muscogee County Jury on Feb. 23, 2024, after a three-week trial.
Attorney General Chris Carr expressed satisfaction in seeing justice served for Marcel Samedi’s family and the affected community. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards gang activities and a commitment to ensuring the safety of all Georgians.
The case was investigated jointly by the Columbus Police Department, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Gang Task Force. Assistant Attorneys General Thomas Kegley and McKenzie Gray prosecuted the case.
Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman praised the collaborative effort of law enforcement in addressing violent crime and gang activity, emphasizing the message sent to those involved in such activities.
GBI Director Chris Hosey reiterated the commitment to combatting criminal street gangs in Georgia, emphasizing the destructive impact of gang violence on communities.
The defendants were found guilty of various charges, including felony murder and violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The incident involved a gathering of the Insane Crips at the Wilson Apartments, where Marcel Samedi sustained a fatal gunshot wound during a shooting perpetrated by the defendants.
The victim and the defendants were all members of the Insane Crips gang, which has subsets and cliques in Georgia, including the Young Foundation Crew and Young Demon Crew. Sentencing for the convicted individuals is scheduled for April 18, 2024.
