Armed Felon Arrested After Firing Shots, Barricading Himself Inside Macon Home

MACON, Ga. – A 50-year-old man was arrested after authorities say he fired shots from inside a Bibb County home and barricaded himself when deputies arrived Saturday afternoon.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Rasul Jamal Shaw.

Deputies were called to the 4000 block of Villa Avenue around 4:26 p.m. after receiving a report of a man firing shots from inside a residence.

When patrol deputies arrived and attempted to contact Shaw, the Sheriff’s Office said he immediately fired two shots and barricaded himself inside the home.

Additional deputies responded and determined Shaw was alone inside the residence and contained there.

Shaw eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies recovered a firearm from the scene.

Authorities did not report any injuries related to the gunfire.

Shaw was initially taken to a medical facility for treatment of an unrelated medical condition before being transferred to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property.

The Sheriff’s Office did not disclose who Shaw is accused of assaulting, whether the two shots fired after deputies arrived were directed at them or why the recovered firearm is considered stolen property.
