Man Who Fled Macon Deputies on Four-Wheeler Arrested With Burglary Tools, Sheriff’s Office Says

MACON, Ga. – A 25-year-old man who previously fled from deputies on a four-wheeler was arrested after investigators spotted him at a gas station and chased him on foot, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Marcus Daniel Copeland was taken into custody Friday, Aug. 28, during a crime suppression detail conducted by investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Property Unit.

According to an incident report, deputies had previously encountered Copeland at a construction area along Hawkinsville Road near Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

Authorities said Copeland fled from deputies on a four-wheeler.

Investigators later located the ATV rider at a gas station. Copeland again attempted to flee, this time on foot, before deputies caught and arrested him following a brief pursuit, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators searched a backpack Copeland was carrying and found burglary tools and a camouflage mask, the report stated.

Copeland was arrested on an obstruction charge and issued citations for more than a dozen traffic violations.

The Sheriff’s Office did not specify the traffic violations or say whether Copeland has been charged with a burglary-related offense in connection with the items recovered from the backpack.

The incident remains under investigation.
