DeKalb County Felon Sentenced to 20 Years Without Parole for Gas Station Shooting

DECATUR, Ga. – A repeat offender who shot a man in the foot after the man asked him for a dollar at a Lithonia-area gas station has been sentenced to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced that 46-year-old Homer Wright was sentenced Tuesday, Aug. 11, by Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Adams.

A jury convicted Wright on July 22 of three counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in connection with the June 23, 2025, shooting of Jquante Lenon, now 46.

Wright received the sentence under Georgia’s recidivist statute. Prosecutors said he had previous convictions for two armed robberies and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, making him ineligible for parole.

Surveillance Video Captured Assault and Shooting

The confrontation began at a gas station in the 6000 block of Hillandale Drive.

According to prosecutors, Lenon approached Wright’s truck and asked him for a dollar. Wright refused, and Lenon walked away.

Instead of leaving, Wright allegedly pulled his truck over to where Lenon was sitting on a curb, got out and brandished a firearm.

Prosecutors said Wright approached Lenon and struck him in the head with the handgun. Lenon then stood up and hit Wright in the face.

Wright responded by shooting Lenon in the left foot before getting back into his truck and driving away, according to the investigation.

The confrontation, including the assault and shooting, was captured by surveillance cameras.

Lenon managed to run to his nearby home on Fields Drive and asked a neighbor to call 911.

DeKalb County Police officers responded at approximately 10:46 p.m. and found Lenon suffering from the gunshot wound.

Investigators identified Wright as the shooter and obtained warrants for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident on June 30, 2025, one week after the shooting.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Charlie Boyter with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Jordan Riser, District Attorney Investigator Keith Carter and Victim Advocate Marva Coward. DeKalb County Police Detective Clayton led the initial investigation.
