14-Year-Old Escapes Hostage Situation After Father Falls Asleep in Coweta County

NEWNAN, Ga. – A domestic dispute developed into a four-hour hostage situation Tuesday evening after authorities say a Coweta County man assaulted his 14-year-old daughter and held her inside a residence before the teenager escaped when the suspect fell asleep.

Coweta County deputies were dispatched at approximately 4:23 p.m. on Aug. 11 to a residence in the 2700 block of Highway 154 in Newnan following a report of a domestic dispute.

When deputies arrived, witnesses alleged that Jeremy Head had physically assaulted his 14-year-old daughter and was holding her against her will inside the residence.

Deputies immediately established a perimeter around the property and attempted to make contact with those inside.

SWAT and Hostage Negotiators Respond

As the situation continued, the Coweta County SWAT and Drone teams were activated and responded to the scene.

Authorities also requested assistance from the Georgia State Patrol SWAT team.

Law enforcement personnel continued working to resolve the situation while hostage negotiators attempted to help get the teenager safely out of the home.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., authorities said the opportunity to escape developed after Head fell asleep.

Through a coordinated effort involving hostage negotiators, the 14-year-old was able to get out of the residence and reach safety.

SWAT Enters Home After Teen Escapes

Once authorities confirmed the teenager was safely away from the residence, SWAT members entered the home.

Head was located and taken into custody without further incident.

He was transported to the Coweta County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges:

• False Imprisonment
• Battery under the Family Violence Act
• Cruelty to Children
• Two counts of Terroristic Threats and Acts
• Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Crime
• Obstruction

Authorities did not release additional details about the alleged assault, the weapon involved or the extent of the teenager’s injuries.

The incident lasted approximately four hours from the initial dispatch until the teenager escaped and Head was taken into custody.
