Dirt Bike Stop on Atlanta BeltLine Leads to Gun, Drugs and More Than $3,200 in Cash
ATLANTA, Ga. – A patrol targeting illegal motor vehicles on the Atlanta BeltLine led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man after officers allegedly found a firearm, more than $3,200 in cash and several types of drugs in his backpack.
On Aug. 7, 2026, Atlanta Police Path Force officers were patrolling the BeltLine near 676 Irwin Street NE in response to reports of motor vehicles being illegally operated on the trail.
During the patrol, officers spotted a man riding a dirt bike and stopped him.
Police said a brief struggle occurred when officers attempted to detain the rider. Officers were ultimately able to take the man, identified as James Womack, 32, into custody.
Police Report Finding Gun, Cash and Multiple Drugs
During the investigation, officers searched Womack’s backpack and reported recovering $3,248 in cash and a firearm, along with several suspected controlled substances.
According to Atlanta Police, the backpack contained:
- 3 grams of methamphetamine
- 9 grams of cocaine
- 1 hydrocodone pill
- 13 MDMA pills
- 15 grams of mushrooms
- 6 amphetamine pills
- 110 grams of marijuana
Police did not provide additional information about the firearm in their initial report.
Womack was charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Obstruction.
He was transported to the Fulton County Jail following his arrest.
The arrest stemmed from the Atlanta Police Department’s enforcement efforts addressing reports of illegal motor vehicle use on the Atlanta BeltLine.
