Ken Henderson

HIAWASSEE, Ga. — Suspended Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson has been arrested following a Georgia Bureau of Investigation inquiry into an alleged financial transaction involving sheriff’s office funds.

The GBI announced Thursday that 67-year-old Ken Henderson of Young Harris has been charged with:

  • Theft by Deception
  • False Statements and Writings
  • Sale of Real or Personal Property to Political Subdivision by Local Officer or Employee
  • Three counts of Violation of Oath of Office

According to the GBI, the investigation began on May 28 after the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office requested an independent investigation into a financial transaction identified during the Towns County Sheriff’s Office annual audit.

During the investigation, agents determined that a check had been written to Henderson from one of the sheriff’s office bank accounts.

Henderson was arrested and booked into the Towns County Detention Center.

The GBI said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Once completed, the case file will be submitted to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution. The office was appointed by the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia to handle this case, as well as a previous GBI investigation involving Henderson.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is encouraged to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Cleveland at 706-348-4866.
