Fugitive Wounded in Grady County Officer-Involved Shooting After Pointing Gun at Deputies
GRADY COUNTY, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a Mitchell County man injured following a multi-agency manhunt.
William Shane Allen, 49, was shot after pointing a firearm at law enforcement officers. No deputies or officers were injured during the incident.
The encounter stemmed from a domestic incident and shooting that occurred earlier on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Grady County. Following that initial shooting, multiple law enforcement agencies launched a coordinated search for Allen near Highway 93.
The tracking operation extended into the early morning hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026. At approximately 1:00 a.m., law enforcement officers located Allen positioned at the edge of a field near Highway 93.
According to preliminary investigative details, Allen pointed a gun at the approaching officers. Two deputies—one from the Grady County Sheriff’s Office and one from the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office—fired their weapons at Allen, striking him at least two times.
Law enforcement personnel trained as medics immediately administered medical aid to Allen at the scene. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The Grady County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to conduct an independent investigation into the use of force. Once the state agency’s investigation is finalized, the complete case file will be turned over to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for formal review.
