Woman Critically Injured After Being Struck by Van While Lying in Macon Roadway

MACON, Ga. – A 42-year-old woman was critically injured Wednesday night after she was struck by a van while lying in a roadway in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies are investigating the serious-injury collision, which occurred shortly before 8:11 p.m. on Aug. 12 on Houston Avenue near the intersection of Charlotte Street.

According to the sheriff’s office, a 69-year-old man driving a white van struck the woman while she was lying in the roadway.

Deputies responded to the scene and made contact with the driver. Authorities have not indicated that any charges have been filed.

The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Medical personnel reported that she was in critical but stable condition.

Her identity has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.

Investigators have not said why the woman was lying in the roadway before she was struck or provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
