Former Roswell High School Teacher Arrested for Improper Sexual Contact with Student
Dr. Amanda Katz (arrested)

ROSWELL, GA — A 55-year-old former teacher and administrative assistant at Roswell High School has been arrested following a multi-month investigation into illegal sexual encounters with a 16-year-old student.

Dr. Amanda Katz was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She faces a felony charge of Improper Sexual Contact by an Employee or Agent.

DFCS Referral Sparks High School Investigation

The criminal probe began earlier this year after the Roswell Police Department (RPD) received a formal referral from the Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) flagging potential misconduct on campus. Katz resigned from her position at Roswell High School shortly after detectives initiated their investigation.

Through interviews and digital evidence collection, detectives determined that Katz used her position of authority to target a 16-year-old student. Investigators established that the suspect sexually assaulted the minor during multiple off-site encounters that spanned from 2025 into 2026. Following the conclusion of the initial phase of the probe, RPD detectives secured a formal warrant and took Katz into custody without incident.

Police Appeal for Campus Information

Because of Katz’s dual roles as both an educator and an administrative assistant at the high school, she had widespread daily interaction with a large portion of the student body. RPD investigators are treating the case as highly active and are working to ensure no other students were targeted.

“Given the nature of Katz’s previous position, investigators ask anyone who may have additional information regarding this case or similar incidents to contact Detective McGinniss,” the department stated.

Parents, students, and school staff with relevant information are urged to reach out directly to Detective McGinniss at 770-640-4570 or via email at kmcginniss@roswellgov.com.
