Film Production to Impact Downtown Macon Streets May 6–7, 12–13

MACON, Ga. — A film production company will be shooting scenes across Macon-Bibb County over the next two weeks, with temporary impacts expected in parts of downtown.

Tap Out Productions plans to film at multiple locations from May 4 through May 15, including areas around Mercer University and downtown corridors.

City officials say road and sidewalk closures will primarily affect Cherry Street and Second Street in downtown, as well as College Street, Coleman Avenue and Ash Street near Tattnall Square Park. Impacts are expected May 6–7 and May 12–13.

Mayor Lester Miller welcomed the production, calling it a positive moment for the community.

“It’s a great day in Macon-Bibb when our beautiful community will be featured on the big screen,” Miller said. “I’m very excited to see Mercer University, Downtown, and many other locations featured so prominently.”

Aaron Buzza said film projects bring both immediate and long-term benefits.

“The productions provide a great showcase for our community both during the time filming is happening and into the future,” Buzza said. “Viewers also have an opportunity to see Macon on screen and often want to experience those locations in person.”

Officials noted filming schedules will avoid peak school traffic times at Alexander II Magnet School to minimize disruptions for students and families.

Macon-Bibb County has served as a backdrop for numerous major productions over the years, including films like The Color Purple, 42, and I, Tonya, as well as television series such as The Vampire Diaries and Lovecraft Country.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead and watch for signage in affected areas during filming days.
