Man Charged After Woman Suffers Severe Burns in Jones County Incident

JONES COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been arrested after a woman suffered severe burn injuries during an incident at a residence in Jones County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the incident occurred April 24 at a home on Fox Road, but authorities were not notified until the following week. As the investigation began, multiple individuals came forward with information about what allegedly took place.

According to witness statements, an argument occurred between the victim and Roger Evans after he allegedly used the victim’s debit card without permission. During the altercation, gasoline was reportedly thrown on the victim before she caught fire inside the residence.

The victim was transported by private vehicle to Piedmont Hospital and later transferred to a burn center in Augusta for treatment of her injuries.

Evans was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
