Suspect Wanted for Aggravated Assault Arrested After Vehicle and Foot Pursuit in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. — A suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated assault case in Atlanta was arrested after fleeing from a traffic stop and leading officers on a short pursuit before being captured on foot, authorities said.
On February 25, 2026, Atlanta Police Officers received information that the suspect was traveling in the downtown area in a Ford Fusion that belonged to the victim of the aggravated assault. Law enforcement coordinated with the Georgia State Patrol and the Atlanta Police Department Air Unit to establish a perimeter along the suspect’s expected route of travel.
With assistance from the Georgia State Patrol, officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver fled from the stop, prompting a pursuit.
The suspect abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by officers shortly afterward.
Authorities identified the suspect as Zakkiyya Ardister. During the pursuit, Ardister discarded a firearm and a satchel, both of which were recovered by officers.
Investigators said the satchel contained two digital scales, multiple glassine bags, one suspected MDMA pill, 2.3 grams of suspected oxycodone, and 49.5 grams of suspected alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax.
Ardister faces charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Reckless Conduct, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and Obstruction.
Authorities also said Ardister had active warrants for Aggravated Assault, Simple Battery, and Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree.
He was transported to the Fulton County Jail.
