Defendant: Hannah Hackemeyer

DECATUR, Ga. — A now 20-year-old woman has pleaded guilty in connection with a 2024 single-vehicle crash in the Oak Grove community that left one passenger dead and another seriously injured.

DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced that Hannah Hackemeyer entered a guilty plea during a hearing today to Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, Serious Injury by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Possession of an Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in the Passenger Area.

The crash occurred on February 24, 2024, when Hackemeyer was 18 years old.

LaTisha Dear Jackson, who presided over the hearing, accepted Hackemeyer’s plea and sentenced her to 10 years, with two years to be served on house arrest.

As part of her sentence, Hackemeyer must wear an ankle monitor and is prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. She is also barred from consuming or possessing alcohol or drugs and must submit to random drug and alcohol screenings. Additional conditions include completing 240 hours of community service and participating in two Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victim Impact Panels.

Judge Dear Jackson granted Hackemeyer’s request to be sentenced under Georgia’s First Offender Act. If she successfully completes the terms of her sentence, the conviction will be sealed from her record.
