Athens-Clarke Police Capture Entering Auto Suspect After Foot Chase and K-9 Search

Athens, Ga. – A coordinated effort between Athens-Clarke County Police officers, a drone unit, and a K-9 team led to the arrest of an entering auto suspect on November 29.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Woodberry Drive after a caller reported an entering auto in progress. When officers arrived, they began searching the area on foot. During the sweep, they spotted the suspect breaking into a second vehicle across the street. As officers approached, he ran.

ACCPD deployed a drone and a K-9 unit to assist with the search. The suspect fled into a wooded area but was quickly tracked down and apprehended by the K-9 team.

He is charged with two counts of Entering an Automobile with Intent to Commit Theft or a Felony and one count of Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer.

Police have not released the suspect’s name, and the investigation remains active.
