Absconder Wanted in Michigan Tracked Through Stephens County Arrested After Multi-Agency Collaboration
Investigators in Stephens County helped federal authorities track down and arrest a Michigan fugitive on Thursday afternoon after he fled across several states before landing in the Southeast.
Around 12:30 p.m., the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division joined the U.S. Marshals Service in locating 35-year-old Kyle Alband of Detroit. Alband was wanted by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan for failing to appear in court on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving force or coercion, along with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The U.S. Marshals Service contacted the SCSO last week after learning that Alband was believed to be staying in Toccoa–Stephens County. The SCSO’s task force agent with the GBI Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office also assisted as investigators worked to track his movements.
During the joint investigation, authorities developed information that Alband had crossed into South Carolina and was staying at a home in Oconee County. On Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshals Service, SCSO investigators, GBI ARDEO agents, and Oconee County Sheriff’s Office deputies found him in Walhalla and took him into custody without incident.
Alband was booked into the Oconee County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition back to Michigan.
Officials credited the teamwork across agencies for the smooth arrest and the quick resolution of the case.
