Three Arrested in Deadly Athens Shooting That Stemmed From Armed Robbery Attempt
ATHENS, GA – Athens-Clarke County Police have arrested three men in connection with the death of 22-year-old Antonio Jewell, who was shot and killed on November 6.
Investigators say the suspects, 23-year-old Samtavious Clark, 18-year-old Jeremiah Gresham, and 18-year-old Dion Nesbitt, were charged with Murder/Malice Murder, Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Criminal Street Gang offenses. The three arrested are from Athens, Georgia.
Police determined that Jewell’s death resulted from an armed robbery attempt in the 100 block of Madison Avenue.
Officers responded to the area around 8:16 p.m. after a report of a person down. When they arrived, they found Jewell on the sidewalk. Despite life-saving efforts by EMS and firefighters, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
