Columbia County Fire Recruit Dies During Training
EVANS, GA – Columbia County Fire Rescue is mourning the loss of Fire Recruit Kalif Leslie Daly, who died Tuesday after becoming ill during firefighter training.
According to the department, Daly was participating in a physical training session on the morning of November 4 when he began feeling unwell. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
“This loss has deeply affected us all,” said Fire Chief Jeremy Wallen in a statement. “Columbia County Fire Rescue is more than a department, we are family. The bond we share—the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service—is built on trust, strength, and shared purpose. Though his time with us was far too short, he will always be a member of the Columbia County Fire Rescue family.”
The department expressed condolences to Daly’s wife, family, and fellow recruits, noting the entire fire service community is grieving his loss.
Officials asked for privacy for Daly’s family and colleagues as they cope with his passing and thanked the community and nearby fire departments for their support.
Funeral arrangements are pending, and additional information will be released once finalized.
