16-Year-Old Killed in Tifton Shooting, GBI Investigating

On October 6, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Tifton Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1100 block of South Central Avenue in Tifton, Georgia. Upon arrival, officers found 16-year-old Jamahri Sims with a gunshot wound. Sims was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators also confirmed that another individual was shot during the incident at a nearby home on East 13th Street. That victim was taken to Tift Regional Medical Center and is receiving treatment for their injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is handling the investigation into Sims’s death. His body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon, Georgia, where an autopsy will be performed. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
