Florida Arrests Lead to Extradition of Suspect in Columbus Child Sexual Assault Case

COLUMBUS, Ga.—A suspect wanted on multiple felony charges related to the sexual assault of a child has been apprehended in Florida and extradited back to Columbus.

The Columbus Police Department’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) began an investigation on April 20, 2025, after officers responded to Piedmont Columbus Regional regarding a reported sexual assault of a child by a family member.

The investigation identified Amos Christian, 39, as the suspect. Warrants were issued for his arrest on charges including:

  • Rape
  • Incest
  • Aggravated Child Molestation
  • Cruelty to Children – 1st Degree and 2nd Degree
  • Reckless Conduct

Investigators developed information that Christian had relocated to Perry, Florida. Working with the Perry Police Department, Columbus officers were able to locate and arrest Christian on September 25, 2025.

Christian was extradited to Columbus on October 7, 2025, and is currently being held at the Muscogee County Jail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on Thursday, October 9, 2025. The Columbus Police Department thanked the Perry Police Department for their assistance in the arrest.
