GBI Investigating Deadly Drive-By Shooting in Thomson

THOMSON, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an investigation into a homicide in Thomson following a late-night drive-by shooting on August 17, 2025.
According to preliminary information, the Thomson Police Department received a 911 call around 11:00 p.m. regarding a shooting at a home in the 400 block of Edgar Circle. When officers arrived, they learned that two people had been struck by gunfire while standing outside the residence.
The victims were identified as 22-year-old D’Corby Benning and 25-year-old Ja’Marcia Hampton, both of Thomson. Benning was transported to Piedmont McDuffie Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Hampton was airlifted to an Augusta hospital and is being treated for his injuries.
Benning’s body will be sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur for an autopsy.
