Douglas County Correctional Officer Arrested for Sexual Assault of Inmate

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. – On August 11, 2025, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding a sexual assault allegedly committed by a correctional officer against a current inmate.

An investigation determined that Officer Christian Nicholas Joe, a new employee with only 37 days of service, engaged in a sexual relationship with a female inmate.

Joe was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault by a Correctional Officer (O.C.G.A. 16-5-5.1), Aggravated Sodomy (16-6-2), and Violation of Oath of Office. He was booked into the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center and denied bond at his first appearance hearing.

Sheriff Tim Pounds emphasized that the Sheriff’s Office conducts thorough background checks and evaluations on all new employees, and that this case was handled by his own investigators to ensure prosecution and maintain strict standards of conduct within the department.
