Man Arrested After Knife Attack at Dempsey Apartments in Downtown Macon

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Monday afternoon following a knife assault near the Dempsey Apartments in downtown Macon.

The incident was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at 12:27 p.m. on July 28, 2025. Deputies responded to the Dempsey Apartments located at 523 Cherry Street in reference to a disturbance involving a man chasing civilians with a knife.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the suspect had already been detained by a chief state court investigator. Witnesses told deputies that the man had been involved in a disturbance with multiple people before getting into a verbal altercation. During the altercation, the suspect brandished a knife and struck a male bystander. The suspect then chased the individual he had argued with onto Cherry Street, where he was taken into custody.

The bystander sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on scene.

The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Anthony Bernard Perkins of Macon, was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He has been charged with Battery and Aggravated Assault. His bond has been set at $6,930.
