Suspect Shot by College Park Officer During Foot Pursuit

COLLEGE PARK, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a Jonesboro man injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 5, after College Park Police Department officers responded to a shooting call.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 7:10 p.m., an officer saw Dwight Jaheem Robinson-Fikes, 31, walking away from the scene of a shooting and noticed he matched the suspect’s description. The officer attempted to make contact, but Robinson-Fikes fled.
During the foot pursuit, the officer gave verbal commands to which Robinson-Fikes did not comply. The officer then shot Robinson-Fikes and gave him commands to drop a firearm. Officers immediately rendered aid.
Robinson-Fikes was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. No officers were injured. Once the investigation is complete, the GBI will turn the case file over to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
