18-Year-Old Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting in Columbus
On July 3, 2025, at approximately 4:27 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4800 block of Hearthstone Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim, later identified as 21-year-old Jaques Banks, lying unresponsive in the front yard of a residence.
Emergency Medical Services attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful. A deputy coroner pronounced Banks deceased at 5:00 p.m.
The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Preliminary findings identified 18-year-old Joriyen Gordon as the suspect.
On July 16, 2025, Gordon was arrested and charged with:
- Murder
- Armed Robbery
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
