Two Hand Grenades Brought to Cornelia Police Prompt Bomb Squad Response

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, around 6:00 PM, two individuals arrived at the Cornelia Police Department with what they believed to be two hand grenades they had discovered while cleaning a home in Habersham County.

Officers immediately activated bomb threat protocols and secured the area around Cornelia City Hall. The Cornelia Fire Department and Habersham EMS responded to the scene, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Bomb Squad was called in to assess the potential threat.

The GBI Bomb Squad determined that both devices were empty of explosive powder but still had intact fuses. The grenades were collected by the bomb technicians and transported to another location for proper disposal.

The Cornelia Police Department expressed appreciation for the swift support from the GBI Bomb Squad, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Department, and the Baldwin Police Department in ensuring public safety.
