Man Flees as 58 Animals Rescued From Hoarding Case in Monroe County

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office rescued 58 animals from a property on Hester Road on Friday afternoon, June 27, after executing a search warrant related to complaints of animal cruelty and hoarding.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., deputies arrived at the property and attempted to speak with 64-year-old Darrell Jones. Jones fled the scene but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Inside the residence, deputies discovered 36 cats, 14 dogs, and 8 puppies living in what authorities described as deplorable conditions. All animals were rescued from the property.

Jones was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer. According to officials, additional charges are expected as the investigation remains ongoing.
