Body Found in Decatur County Identified as 34-Year-Old Woman; Death Ruled Homicide

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of 34-year-old Kierra Burney of Bainbridge after her body was discovered by work crews near Pondtown Road on February 12, 2025, at approximately 8:20 a.m.

The body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab, where an autopsy confirmed Burney’s identity and determined her death was a homicide.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office is offering up to a $1,000 reward through the “Decatur County Citizens Against Crime Fund” for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The case remains under investigation. Once completed, the findings will be submitted to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
