Knife-Wielding Man Arrested After Assaulting Deputies at Gordon County Motel
On Saturday night, February 1, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Gordon County deputies responded to a disturbance at a motel near U.S. Highway 41 and Interstate 75 in Calhoun.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered 34-year-old Ezekiel Dakota Cooper of Calhoun, who was armed with a knife and behaving violently. Cooper refused to comply with commands to drop the weapon and physically assaulted the deputies before attempting to barricade himself inside a room.
A struggle ensued as Cooper resisted arrest, during which one deputy suffered a bite wound and another was cut by broken glass. Despite his resistance, deputies were able to subdue and arrest him.
Both deputies and Cooper were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital and released. Cooper was booked into the Gordon County Jail on multiple counts of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officers and felony Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.
