Man Asking for Money on Interstate Ramp Arrested After Fleeing from Bibb County Deputy

A 57-year-old Macon man was arrested after fleeing from a deputy on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, during a routine traffic stop.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Robert Kosmowski encountered Darrell Bernard Spencer at the interstate offramp, where Spencer was allegedly asking motorists for money, claiming his vehicle had run out of gas. When Kosmowski approached, Spencer fled on foot, jumped into his Honda, and drove off.
Spencer abandoned his vehicle and ran into the woods along the interstate. Deputies pursued and apprehended him shortly after. It was later discovered that Spencer was driving with a suspended license and had an active warrant for his arrest.
Spencer, who had been previously reported by the sheriff’s office, was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center without further incident.
