Clayton County Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for 2018 Holiday Murder of College Student
Clayton County District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley has announced the conviction of Joshua Tyrone Shubrich for the 2018 murder of Albany State University student Iseir George. Shubrich, who was on felony probation, was found guilty by a Clayton County jury of Malice Murder, three counts of Felony Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a First Offender Probationer.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Shubrich fatally shot 22-year-old George multiple times in the back as he attempted to flee, ultimately dying in his parents’ front yard. George had been home visiting family for the holidays when he was killed on December 21, 2018. The prosecution’s case included testimony from nine witnesses and an audio recording in which Shubrich allegedly bragged about the murder, describing how George ran for his life as Shubrich fired rounds from a Draco semi-automatic pistol. Shubrich, however, denied his voice was on the recording and was held in contempt of court for his behavior during the proceedings.
Assistant District Attorney Anyssa Williams led the prosecution, with support from Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Perez-Espejo, Investigator James Windon, and Victim Advocate Kelita Almond. The trial began on October 28, 2024, and concluded just two days later, with the jury reaching a unanimous verdict after deliberating for less than 35 minutes.
Clayton County Superior Court Judge Shana Rooks Malone presided over the trial, sentencing Shubrich to life without the possibility of parole, plus an additional ten years to be served in confinement.
Following the verdict, District Attorney Mosley commented, “This conviction underscores our commitment to seeking justice for the victims and holding violent offenders accountable under the full extent of the law.”
