Juvenile Detained After Threatening School Shooting at Augusta School

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a social media post indicating that A.R. Johnson Magnet School at 1324 Laney Walker Blvd., Augusta, GA, would be targeted in a school shooting.

During the investigation, authorities identified and apprehended the source of the post, a juvenile. The juvenile was transported to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and admitted that the threat was a joke with no intentions of carrying out a shooting. It was confirmed that the juvenile had no access to weapons.

The juvenile has been detained by the Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) on charges of Terroristic Threats and Acts. The investigation is ongoing, with no additional information available at this time.
