Man Fatally Stabbed in SUV in Columbus, Suspect Arrested

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 11:46 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the intersection of South Lumpkin Road and Knox Street. Upon arrival, officers found an SUV stopped in the roadway with a Black male, later identified as 33-year-old Cartez Shanklin, inside. Shanklin was suffering from a stab wound.

Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported Shanklin to Piedmont Columbus Regional. Despite efforts to save him, Shanklin was pronounced deceased at 12:20 a.m. by an emergency room doctor.

The Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene to lead the investigation. Preliminary findings identified 39-year-old Jerry Jermaine Miller as the suspect in the case. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Miller was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
