Five Suspects, Including 15-Year-Old, Charged After 12 People Shot at Macon Park

MACON, Ga. – Five suspects, including a 15-year-old being charged as an adult, have been arrested in connection with a shootout at Carolyn Crayton Park that left 12 people wounded, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting erupted near the park’s skatepark during a large gathering early Sunday morning. Deputies were dispatched at 12:06 a.m. after reports of gunfire.

Investigators said a large group was holding a party near the skatepark when a second group arrived across the street. Members of the two groups exchanged words, displayed firearms and then began shooting at each other, according to the sheriff’s office.

Initially, authorities identified 11 people who had been shot. A 12th victim, a 19-year-old man, arrived at a local medical facility later Sunday with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators determined he had also been wounded during the park shooting.

The victims include four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males, two 18-year-old females and the 19-year-old man identified in the later update.

Two of the initial victims, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, were listed in critical but stable condition. The remaining victims were reported in stable condition.

Hospital placed on lockdown

Most of the victims were taken to the hospital in private vehicles while deputies were responding to the park.

The number of vehicles arriving at the hospital, along with family members and friends of the victims, prompted authorities to tape off the area and place the emergency room on lockdown, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators seized seven vehicles as part of the investigation. Four had been used to transport shooting victims to the hospital, while three were left behind at Carolyn Crayton Park. The vehicles were taken to the crime lab for further examination.

Ten witnesses were also taken to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division for interviews.

Five suspects arrested

Investigators subsequently identified 24-year-old David Pitts and 20-year-old Jaquez Bailey as suspects.

Search and arrest warrants were served with assistance from the sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Unit and Drug Unit, along with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and FBI.

Pitts was charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault as a party to a crime. Bailey was charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault. Both were being held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Investigators later identified two additional suspects, Lantonio Hill, 17, and Justin Green, 19.

Hill and Green were arrested Tuesday following the execution of search and arrest warrants. Both were questioned by investigators before being taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Hill faces 12 counts of aggravated assault. Green faces 12 counts of aggravated assault and a probation violation. Both were being held without bond.

15-year-old charged as adult

The fifth suspect identified by investigators is Ahmad Lundy, 15.

The sheriff’s office said Lundy was interviewed Tuesday by investigators before being arrested and processed through the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He was subsequently transferred to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center.

Authorities said Lundy is being charged as an adult with 12 counts of aggravated assault.

The sheriff’s office has not provided details about what investigators believe each suspect did during the exchange of gunfire or whether authorities are seeking additional suspects.
