12 Injured, Two Critical, After Shootout Erupts at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon
MACON, Ga. — Twelve teenagers and young adults were injured, including two who remain in critical condition, after a shootout between two groups erupted during a gathering at Carolyn Crayton Park early Sunday morning, according to updated information from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center received the initial call at 12:06 a.m. Sunday regarding gunfire at the park. While deputies were en route, hospital staff reported that multiple gunshot victims were arriving at a local medical facility via personal vehicles.
Skatepark Altercation and Hospital Lockdown
According to investigators, a large group was gathering near the park’s skatepark area for a party when a second group arrived across the street. A verbal argument broke out between the two groups, leading individuals on both sides to brandish firearms and open fire.
The influx of victims, along with a high volume of family members and friends arriving at the medical facility, prompted authorities to tape off the immediate area and temporarily place the emergency room on lockdown to maintain order and security.
Updated Victim Breakdown
The victim total rose to 12 on Sunday afternoon at 12:24 p.m. when Macon-Bibb E-911 received notification that a 19-year-old male had arrived at a local medical facility with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators subsequently determined his injuries were sustained during the Carolyn Crayton Park incident.
The current breakdown of all 12 victims and their medical conditions is as follows:
- One 19-Year-Old Male: Treated for a gunshot wound; listed in stable condition.
- Five 17-Year-Old Males: One in critical condition; four in stable condition.
- Four 18-Year-Old Males: One in critical condition; three in stable condition.
- Two 18-Year-Old Females: Both listed in stable condition.
In total, 10 victims are in stable condition, while two—a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male—remain in critical condition.
Evidence Collection and Active Investigation
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) brought 10 witnesses to the sheriff’s office for formal interviews. Law enforcement also impounded seven vehicles for forensic analysis at the crime lab, including four used to transport victims to the hospital and three abandoned at the park.
